Bloodstock Festival Countdown : 24 Bands Not To Miss

Every sleep brings us closer. We are now a mere two weeks away. Two weeks till we are busy enjoying the beast of Bloodstock whilst marvelling at the new XXL Sophie stage and the ingenious repositioning of the EMP stage. It is so close… But till then let us release another of ROCKFLESH’s heartfelt testimonies about the bands playing. Here is no 14 and it’s a heavy weight…

14. Sepultura – Ronnie James Dio – Friday Evening around quarter to seven.

Ok we have tried to regale you with lesser-known acts that you may not be fully aware of but today we are going with a juggernaut of metal. To be honest Sepultura are such a fundamental part of the fabric of our universe that there probably isn’t any need for us to pontificate about why you must go and see them. But we have copy to file and web space to fill, so please allow us a paragraph while we recap what you already know. 

Sepultura are a fundamental part of the DNA of modern metal. To simply describe them as part of the eighties thrash movement is to disregard their importance in the development of groove, alternative, death and industrial metal. If a subgenre has developed since the mid nineties then you will find Sepultura’s fingerprints on it. “Chaos AD” opened up the possibilities and confides of thrash, whilst “Roots” changed everything. Up there as one of the most influential metal albums ever made, it set the template for using indigenous sounds and cultures and expanding the palette of metal’s influence. Sepultura are so important that it is fitting that they have chosen the fields of Bloodstock to bid a final farewell to this country. So come, join us and worship one last time at the feet of a band that as sculptured so much of our world. There is no band like them and this indeed is your last chance to see.
