You may think we are just another compliant media hyperbole provider that bigs up Bloodstock Festival because that is what we are told to do. That couldn’t be further from the truth. All of ROCKFLESH’s small but dedicated team are long term Bloodstock devotees long before we started covering it for you the dear reader. This is our chief writer Stewart’s 17th Bloodstock after he first visited the hallowed turf in 2009 to see his beloved Europe’s only UK show of the year. He came back hooked and has made the pilgrimage every year. We are fans first, second and third and sub-standard writers and photographers fourth and fifth. And here is a band that Stewart is potty about and rather beside himself that they are on the main stage, number 11 Party Freckin Cannon

11. Party Cannon. – Ronnie James Dio Stage – around quarter to midday.

This years’ Bloodstock is a party. It is a celebration of 25 years of the most independent of independent festivals. It is a recognition of how far this plucky understart has come and the dedication of its fanbase. So as this is a party, we need a party band, and they don’t party harder than Party Cannon. You may well know them for THAT logo which has confounded both metal enthusiasts and mainstream bods for over a decade. It may have launched a thousand memes, but for all the childhood playfulness of their graphics, Party Cannon are the last word in brutality. 

They are the kings of Slam and for the uninitiated Slam Metal is Death Metal’s younger feral sibling. It is fast, furious and unafraid to break all the rules. This is metal with the stabilisers and safety catches off. Nasty, nauseating riffs; squeals that belong in an abattoir and drumming so precise it is like laced with Gatton gunfire. Party Cannon embrace the ridiculousness and with a big f*ck stage to play on they will be a riot of inflatable hammers, technicolour signs and push ups. This is metal simultaneously at its most repulsive and its most fun. What a way to celebrate a quarter of a century of Bloodstock.
