Live Review : The New Roses + The Mercury Riots @ The Tivoli, Buckey on September 19th 2025

Some things just seem to go together naturally. Strawberries and cream. Tea and cake. Rum and coke. You get the idea. Well, whoever came up with tonight’s pairing for a rock tour is a genius because The New Roses and The Mercury Riots also work pretty well together. Both play good classic rock music with singalong choruses and a happy, uplifting vibe. Both are lovely guys who don’t leave the building until every single person has had something signed, or a photo, or just a chat. Both seem to be thriving on this tour and pulling decent crowds into iconic venues such as the Tiv.

Live Review : The Mercury Riots + Heartbreak Remedy @ Vinyl Tap, Preston, August 18th 2024

Vinyl Tap continues their fine run of bringing the best rock n roll, both international and home-grown to their small but perfectly formed venue in the heart of Preston.  And tonight’s bill illustrates that perfectly, with the exquisite grooves of L.A’s The Mercury Riots sharing a stage with Cumbrian heroes, Heartbreak Remedy.  And whilst the two may be thousands of miles apart geographically, musically they share a common DNA, a desire to deliver good time, life-affirming rock n roll, that lets you forget your problems and worries for a couple of hours, and leaves you with a grin on your face and a lighter spirit.  And tonight, both bands proceed to do precisely that…

Live Review : The Mercury Riots + Black Water Fiend @ The Freebird, Newcastle-Under-Lyme on May 14th 2022

Another day another rock gig, but also a new venue to explore. I liked it. It’s easy to get to, plenty of parking, staff were lovely, the room is small but has seating for us old codgers and the sound was spot-on. Even the lights, which looked ominously purple at first, turned out to be not so bad and I think Ryan managed to do both bands justice with the photos.
