Live Review : 2000trees on July 9th 2022

It’s Saturday morning, the last day, excitement, and mixed feeling that it’s almost over fill me, but no time to ponder because it’s band time. My first band is the heavy metal band Defects and just wow… it’s 11am and they are on full form, with energy, brutality and a few songs in they open up a circle pit. It’s rude not to, so I join in, nothing like a good pit to start your day off as you mean to go on; Defects and the crowd deliver.

No time to hang around, I am off to catch the talk from Safe Gigs For Women; sharing some horrific stories of how women get treated at gigs and some of it by the security staff who should be there to protect them. There is still hope and things are slowly moving in the right direction, 2000trees being one of the festivals that are working with this charity. They talk about what we as punters can do if we see this behaviour with the 4D’s, more details are available here.

Next on my list is Kid Kapichi with some bouncy punk rock, with really good vocals and sound. They work the stage well, everyone enjoying the dig at the current political classes with their stripped back track ‘Party at Number 10’, everyone was hoping for an appearance of Bob Vylan to perform the track ‘New England’, but unfortunately it was not to be.

My main band of the day Nova Twins do not disappoint with their mid-afternoon billing, they are owning the stage, the sun is extremely bright and the heat is high, but everyone is enjoying the set. How they can have so much energy bouncing around in the sun I have no idea, but they do it and the music and vocals are good, clear and that filthy sound they have it just works so well.

Next up on the main stage it’s the Australian punk rockers The Chats. There are quite a few songs I know that they manage to squeeze into their set, the catchy "Dine and Dash” and “AC/DC CD”.

We follow some band recommendations for the rest of the day and first up is Press to Meco; not bad, hints of Greenday in a couple of tracks but as soon as we are settled in it’s off to see another recommendation, Zand. I am so glad I did. Just dark pop goodness. The lead singer takes to the stage with an amazing voice and two dog-masked dancers on either side; the fans are going wild. I am sucked into this popish noise and make my way to the crowd forming around the stage. It’s an energy and performance I have not seen for a while and I love it, there is some heartfelt interactions with the crowd and the fans reply in kind. It’s brilliant and a very enjoyable set, I definitely need to find out more.

The next band is Gen and the Degenerates. They were very relaxed and the set just flowed. It was a great way to top off this festival and my headline act for Saturday.

That was my 2000trees and thank you for reading my ramblings. Let’s all hopefully do it again next year.
