38. Ingested - 'Where Only Gods May Tread'

Another album buried by 2020. This was meant to catapult the Mancunian battlers further up Death Metal’s food chain. They were ready for this, they were hungry for this, however they have ended up (like many of us) twiddling their thumbs and watching crap on Netflix.

“Where Only Gods May Tread” does not deviate from their sound and does not see them doing anything particularly revolutionary with Death Metal. Ingested are quite content to stick at what they do and to do that well, really well. Because this is an exemplary piece of Death Metal. It does not reinvent or re-configure the genre. Instead it gets on with being crushingly heavy, direct and in your face. It is brutal, invigorating and unstoppable, in fact all things I love about Death Metal. Not going to change the World or take the genre mainstream, but you will struggle to find a better example of route 101 Death Metal.
